Resin Shtender (Book Stand)

This project is a custom hand built resin and wood shtender (with a touch of 3D printing because no project made by me is ever done without a hint of a 3D print thrown in). This project was a complete labor of love that took over a month to complete but the end result was well worth it. I had the idea in my head to make a shtender which is a book stand that can be used in a synagogue or home to hold prayer books or other religious books in an upright positition to be read from. I wanted something unique and special like no other that is offered online for sale. While my main goal was to build the best piece I could make my goal was also to make something nice enough that it could be my first big ticket sale. I made a custom mold out of melamine, found a gorgeus piece of walnut from a local sawmill and got to work. I chose gold resin to contrast with the dark walnut.

For the base I chose matching pieces of walnut along with some cherry wood I had leftover from a previous project. The base is very simple as to not take away from the elegance of the actual shtender. The whole base has a quarter inch roundover to give a nice feeling to the hand. To adjust the angle of the main body I 3D printed a multi angle stop out of wood infused PLA to blend in and match the rest of the project rather than a regular color of basic PLA.

Once the resin and wood piece finished curing, it received multiple days of sanding to ensure it had an even and glossy finish. No shortcuts were taken in the finishing of this product.

To finish the project off it got a coat of Rubio monocoat and rubber feet on the bottom.

I listed this project on my Etsy store where it did sit for a bit but one day someone messaged me they were interested. I engraved their name and a psalm on the front and sent it off to the very satisfied customer.
